The questions are getting better

So, now that Squeaky has turned 4, we are getting some insightful questions!  They seem to be taking me off guard and I am finding myself needing to REALLY stop and answer her questions.  And just saying “ok, hunny!” to everything just won’t cut it anymore.

Today I was faced with, “Is gum food?”  Now, you would think that would be a simple answer, however it is really a two step answer.  My reply “No, it’s not food.  However, you may not chew it with your mouth open, but you CAN talk with it in your mouth.”   See how she was going to trick me there??  We are trying REALLY hard to keep the kids from “smacking” the gum in their mouths. You know, that annoying sound you can get when people aren’t really paying attention to their gum. (some of you may know of someone who does this, others may just now be finding out that it is them!)

The other question of the day was “How do you put a baby in your tummy?”

Again, really not ready for that one!!  For now, I answered “Well, actually the baby grows there!”  And she stopped asking questions.  I am not sure that was an appropriate answer on my part, but it works for now.  And I am comfortable with it.  I am sure she will ask more tomorrow, and I hope I have a better answer.  But I made it through one more day of her questions and I don’t think I have permanently damaged her at all!
