Working Girl

Bet you are thinking it would be me, right? No, Bug my 8 year old wants an Ipod Nano. Definately something I am not just going to run to the store and pick up for her. I am not against her having it. But I feel she should want it enough to still want it after she has earned the money to get it! She has 1/3 of the the money now. So at least she has a start and doesn’t feel like she is starting from scratch. There isn’t much an 8 year old can really do, that can get her some money. So we brain stormed.

What does Bug like?

Animals, crafts, kids, babies, drawing, writing, playing, cooking, reading and staying up (at least trying) all night.

Ok, so I wanted something that didn’t have to involve too much of me! Not that I won’t be there for help, but I truly want it to be HER earning the money. Tim thought dog sitting, but I ruled that out. Babysitting? No, again she is 8. Should could be a mommy’s helper…but we don’t know that many people with younger kids and well, she is 8! I can’t just run an ad in the paper and hope we get “good” people!

She loves to sew, but her skills aren’t quite there yet. There would still be a lot of work from me, and well, to be honest if I am going to sew and sell it, I want the dough!

Then it hit me. She can make hair bows! It involves some supplies, but I can help her with those. And it does involve an oven, again, I can help with taking a pan out of the oven. So, I am not sure what she should charge, or maybe she should try ebay, but I will let her try and sell some hair bows. If you are interested, and can remember they are made by an 8 year old, let me know! I will help get things mailed and things like that, but I would really like it to be her doing the actual work. They will be on alligator clips, with curled ribbon. Some call them “korker bows.”

I am adding a picture of a bow that I made, which is the way I am teaching Bug to do it as well.

So, if you can, please help an 8 year old earn some money!! She wants to be a Working Girl!
